Darren and I are so limited on ALONE time, especially alone time that includes several consecutive days in a row. We are blessed, from time to time, by being able to hire Destiny to fill in for us so we can get away. AND... that is exactly what happened a few weeks ago. I reserved Destiny LOOOOONG before I knew her schedule would book up and I told Darren, "We are going out of town!" He was psyched, especially since it was something I put on my Christmas wish list, he was glad he could knock that off of the list. Hehe.
We put the kids on the bus and off we went. We got in the car and Darren said, "Where are we going?" LOL! It was actually that spontaneous. We had narrowed it down to either Charlotte or D.C. He let me have the final say. My decision was fairly easy. Since we had been to Charlotte several times in a row, I wanted to go to D.C. I hadn't been to the Tyson's Corner area in almost 7 years.
We arrived and immediately had lunch together. We wanted to get our shop on, so we just ate at Five Guys. Yum!!!! We shopped from 11:45 a.m. until about 6:30 pm. We didn't want to waste time eating a loooooong, drawn out dinner, so we just ate at the Panda Express. Check out my fortune, from my fortune cookie. Not the greatest fortune to get when you are going shopping, huh?
It took us almost 6 hours to complete the bottom section of Tyson's Corner. Then, we started the second floor and shopped until the mall closed at 9:30 p.m. After we left the mall, we went to Target. LOL!!!! Our feet were about to fall off.
We checked into our hotel around 11:00 p.m. Darren and I reserved a hotel room, from our laptop, as we drove to D.C. I didn't do MOUNDS of research or read mounds reviews, like I normally do. I just looked for a 4+ star hotel/resort. I was so impressed by the hotel room, the beauty of the hotel's interior, the cleanliness, and the hotel's amenities. Check it out. Surprisingly, it was an insanely good price too... $89.00 per night. I was stunned.
The outdoor firepit! Oh what a nice greeting that was after a long days of work shopping.

The shower was all marble and glass.
The morning fire pit! Doesn't it look so appealing?
The next day, we woke up and had a scrumptious breakfast at the Corner Bakery at Tyson's Galleria aka Tyson's II.
Check out Darren's oatmeal! It was so incredible tasting, but also so aesthetically pleasing that I had to take a picture. Whole grain, steel-cut oatmeal topped with his choice of currants, cranberries, brown sugar, toasted walnuts, and almonds OR ALL of the ABOVE. The side item was a "sweet crisp". I LOVED the way it tasted. I could eat oatmeal everyday if it was served that way. LOL! #unhealthy
After breakfast, we went back to Tyson's Corner. The Galleria has ridiculously HIGH end stores, totally for the filthy rich, that have NOTHING better to do, but BLOW money. Some of the stores that the Galleria has are Neiman Marcus, UGG, Porsch, Loui Vuitton, Coach etc...We only stayed at Tyson's Corner for about 3 hours. Then we traveled around the outskirts, in search of a Dick's Sporting Goods, Best Buy, TJ Maxx, etc... We found them, but I have NO IDEA what town it was in. Eventually, we were lead to the candy store for organizers... The Container Store. I could hardly contain myself...haha. I was on a mission for organizing materials for the kids' leggos. I knew I would find exactly what I was looking for and I DID. $72 later. Eeeeeekkkkk!
We ended our trip at the Cheesecake Factory, our favorite. I ordered something I had never had before... a sausage ricotta flatbread. It was to die for and again very yummy looking!
18+ hours of shopping, 39+ hours kid free with the love of my life, some Christmas shopping accomplished.... felt so good to feel like an adult again! It's always so nice getting away, but getting away really does make you realize how much you love your home and your children that much more!
PS. I left my cannon camera at home, so Destiny could use it. All of the above photos are taken with my iPhone equaling poor quality!
What was the name of the hotel?
ReplyDeleteI wanted to mention the name of the hotel, but I forgot what it was. I just asked Darren. He said, "Hilton McLean, VA. The website's photos do the resort no justice, but the reviews were fantastic. So that's why we chose to stay there.
