Football Conditioning / Tire Drag

Football season is halfway over and my boys know where they stand on their team.  We are brutally honest with our kids, IF they ask OR if they need to be set back to reality, but truthfully, my kids very much desire to be "the best", so it KILLS them if they don't make a single tackle during a game, if they get sacked, or if don't stay in the game the entire time.  Darren and I have a common saying, "You get what you work for, not what you wish for!" It is certainly NOT to discourage our children, but rather it is meant to encourage them and make them work that much harder.  With that being said, Jax had been begging me to get him some tires.  He wanted to improve his football skills.  So, this past Sunday, I texted one of our closest friends, Zach Harris.  He happens to not be only our friend, but a race car competitor and Jax's football coach, PERFECT!!!! Zach dug out some old racing tires from the mountain side, that he lives on, and headed over with his two boys: Cohen and Caleb. Both of our families joined in on the fun!!!
We used the two tires, a belt, and rope!!!!
Jaxey got to go first.  Coach Zach timed the boys so that it could be MORE competitive.
Cohen beat Jax by 10 seconds I think.  Is that right Coach Zach?
Ty beat Cohen by 10 seconds.  Is that right Coach Zach?
Little brother Caleb gave it a try too!
Then, little sister said, "What boys can do, girls can do BETTER!!!!"
And then of course #fitdad and #fitmom took a turn.  I am so thankful Darren didn't snap photos or videos of me.  I was still in my dress from church, LOL, but I had tennis shoes on. Of course Darren beat everyone! Darren did say, "I was pretty impressed at how fast you went."
After the tire drag, the boys rolled the tires up the hill.
Look at his little tongue out.  Hehe.
Enjoy some of the video clips (out of order) and I apologize in advanced, but the quality is poor (thanks I-phone).
This was a blast and I was even thankful for the exercise. ALTHOUGH tiresome and taxing, I love this type of stuff. Thank you Zach for fulfilling my little guy's dreams.

30 DAYS OF SUCCESS

On January 2, 2012 I stopped eating ANY type of bread (bread, chips, pasta, bread crumbs, you name it!) as well as any form of sweets. I was in desperate need of a carb and sugar, not to mention processed food/refined food/fast food DETOX. Today marks my 30 days of SUCCESS. I feel so good! So energetic. So healthy. My brother has been trying to convince me to go gluten free for those reasons alone.

Anyway, it was slightly challenging in the beginning mostly just because I had to readjust my brain to find ways to supplement foods where bread normally is eaten. My BIGGEST challenge was when we would go to our favorite restaurant El Rodeo or Rancho Viejo. Those chips.... ahhhhh.... they are so good. I went twice and never ate ONE chip. I even turned down a lunch date out of fear I would cheat.

Some of the foods I ate in place of bread:

Celery with peanut Butter
Banana with peanut butter
Avocado
Bacon
Low-Carb High Protein Yogurt
Nuts of ALL kind (measure those boogers because they are high in fat/calories)
EGGS
Beef Jerky
Turkey Pepperoni
Fresh Fruits and Veggies
Protein Shakes
Protein Bars

I have amazing will power WHEN I give myself rules/limits. I honestly am NOT going to go back to eating breads or sweets just because my 30 days are up. Since this is my birthday month, I may eat ONE or TWO desserts this month, but I am going to try to make this a lifestyle change as much as possible. I may just allow myself a once a week splurge on BOTH items.

Try it!!!! You'll not only feel great, but you'd be surprised HOW fast the 30 days arrives.

I've been following this up with a 4 day a week workout. I didn't want to get burned out from making myself workout 5 days a week. This has worked out great. I lift weights, run 3 1/2 miles, and do either P90x, Insanity, OR a Body Pump workout video. I'm hoping my hubby got me ZUMBA for my birthday!!!!

Have I seen results? Not on the scale, but in the mirror yes, and that's all that matters. A friend, at church last night said, "No offense, but you always look the same. Whether you eat bad or good, workout or don't workout." At first that was offensive to me, but then I realized, I'll take it as a compliment. The thing is... I don't have 30 pounds to loose, so she's right, much change will not be visible with clothing on :) ONE thing is for sure though, I may not look different, but I FEEL DIFFERENT!

Below is a clip of an advertisement for INSANITY! It's the PERFECT title for this workout. IT truly is INSANE. IT EVEN KICKS MY HUBBY'S BUTT!

Plyometrics With Tony Horton, Featuring Tyson Bolling

Tyson has a great role model in his daddy. Lately, he has really been into working out. It seems to be the hottest item on his agenda (maybe he should be grounded from the playstation more often). On Monday, Ty and I worked out together. While I ran on the treadmill, Tyson punched the punching bag over 200 times. I know this because as I ran, I had was forced to hear "101, 102, 103, 104" all the way to "200". He also used the Bowflex and did some very adorable push ups.

Today, when he got off the bus, he wanted to work out immediately. I said, "No, let's do your homework first and make lollipops next, then we will workout." He battled with me for a moment. This kid is strange. He'd rather workout than make lollipops. He lost interest in making the lollipops quickly. It was probably because his crazy mother yelled at him every time one of the sprinkles touched the floor. SORRY, okay! I just had the floors cleaned today. I like them to stay clean for at least ONE day.

The first photo below is where you have to "run around in circles". Do you recall that one? Tony Horton suggests using a towel to run around instead of a dumbbell to eliminate possible injury. Tyson used his sissy's blankie. I had to fight her off of him to capture this photo because she was NOT happy about her baby being used as a workout prop.
Instead, he asked if he could do a workout video, "like daddy does". HILARIOUS! For those of you who know of P90X, that's the dvd I popped in for him. And to make matters worse, I put in the hardest video in the routine...Plyometrics. Ty was a hoot! He had a blast doing it. Lilah even stepped in for a quick stab at it.
